Don't get me wrong! I love commercial and studio portraiture. You can really see the beauty in everybody you photograph with the right lighting and a perfect pose. But theres something about fine art portraiture or creative, outside of the box portraiture, that really draws me in. Its about emotion. Its about how you make the viewer feel. If a photographer can make you feel a certain way from just looking at their photograph thats really something! Thats what art is really, what the viewer takes away from the image, whether its a painting, a drawing, or a photograph. The best photographs that I've seen or that stick out in my memory are those that made me feel unnerved, rattled, or unhinged. Not the well posed model material images that are most popular today. If you are reading this I nominate you to create something that is even just a little bit outside of your comfort zone whether it be a photograph, a drawing, or even an advertisement for something you do. Be bold! Be different! Make people feel something about what you have created.
